Genetrix

Genetrix was founded as a spin-off from the National Center of Biotechnology (CNB) located in the Madrid Science Park (PCM).


The Group creates cellular and molecular lines of research:  New HQ is established at  Marconi 1 in the Madrid Technology Park (PTM) located in Tres Cantos with an area of 1000 m2, of which 670 m2 is devoted to Research and Development.


A “NEOTEC” loan for €.0.3 million is obtained from the Center for the Development of Industrial Technology (CDTI)


Genetrix closes a €9 million funding round and creates a new company “Cellerix” from its cellular research:

  • 2004
    - Closes a financing round worth €1.3 million led by Genetrix and the Management Team.
    - The Phase II clinical trial with Ontaril® for treatment of complex perianal fistulas starts.
  • 2005
    - Closes a financing round worth €4.3 million led by Genetrix and private investors.
    - Orphan drug designation for Ontaril® by The European Medicines Agency (EMEA).
    - Investigations for developing a chimeric skin indicated for treatment of Epidermolysis Bullosa (Cx501) start.
  • 2006
    - The Phase II clinical trial with Ontaril® is successfully complete.
    - Orphan drug designation by The European Medicines Agency (EMEA) for Cx501 is granted.
  • 2007
    - Cellerix closes a financing round worth €27.2 million led by international and national partners, Corporate Venture Funds and other financial investors include existing shareholders (Genetrix and Nerel).
    - The Phase III clinical trial with Ontaril® starts.
    - Cellerix concludes a licensing agreement with Axcan Pharma Inc. to co-develop and marketing Ontaril in North America, Mexico and Canada worth up to €28 million.
    - The Phase I/II clinical trial for Cx501 starts.
    - First preclinical research to develop a wide range of medicines indicated for the treatment of inflammatory diseases (Cx611) starts.
  • 2008
    -
    Cellerix obtain a 10M€ debt facility with ETV Capital.
  • 2009
    -
    Cellerix names board member Eduard E Holdener.

Genetrix receives prize for "Technology-Based Firm" from the Tres Cantos City Council
Genetrix closes a financing round worth €6.3 million.
Genetrix makes a financial contribution of 8% in shareholding Bioalma.

Biotherapix Genetrix founds a new company from its molecular research called Biotherapix Molecular Medicine:
  • 2005
    - Launch of platform for generation and screening human monoclonal antibodies with therapeutic and diagnostic applications
    - New research focused on new generation anti-inflammatory drugs - specifically chemokine receptor antagonists (Diakines ®) starts.
  • 2006
    - Biotherapix sets up new laboratory of 250 m2 in the Madrid Science Park (PCM)
 
Imbiosis Genetrix founds Imbiosis in collaboration with the gluten unit of CNB - dedicated to detection and removal of gluten from foods.
  • 2005
    - Exclusive licensing agreement signed for marketing of "Cocktail" solution developed by the CNB for extraction of gluten.
  • 2006
    -Imbiosis makes its first profit and secures customers such as Hero, Kelloggs, Matutano, Polar, Chamtor, Cerestar, Raisio
  • 2007
    - Customer base grows with the addition of Cueto & Mercadona.
    - Imbiosis reaches 5,000 samples processed in 60 types of food
 
Sensia Genetrix founds Sensia S.L - dedicated to development of biosensors to detect compounds for life sciences laboratories and environmental monitoring.
  • 2006
    - Sensia develops a prototype biosensor based on the Surface Plasmon Resonance (SPR) technology.
  • 2007
    - The Mondragon group enters as a Sensia shareholder.
    - Sensia closes financing round worth €0.3 million.
  • 2008
    - A CDTI loan is obtained for 0,4 M€.
  • 2009
    -
    Sensia will make the commercial version of a functional and mobile commercial prototype that can detect and quantify substances (e.g. THG) available last quarter of 2009.

Genetrix closes financing round worth €0.3 million and creates Coretherapix focused on regenerative cardiac medicine.

Biobide Genetrix founds Biobide, the first Spanish company to focus on massively automated testing of new drugs using zebrafish.
  • 2007
    - Biobide becomes the European platform for HTS in zebrafish with a capacity for analyzing up to 5,000 compounds per day.
    - Biobide closes its first agreement for testing of new drugs with a pharmaceutical company.
  • 2008
    - Biobide has achieved the certificate as a laboratory Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP)
    .
  • 2009
    - Biobide wins Bio BUZZ in the Bio International Convention of Atlanta.

 

Coretherapix Coretherapix foundation
  • 2007
    - Coretherapix begins pre-clinical research to develop cellular products indicated for chronic heart failure.
  • 2008
    - Coretherapix is part of the CAREMI (Cardio Repair European Multidisciplinary Initiative) consortium funded by European Comission. (Seventh Framework Programme (FP7).
 
Fenix Biotech foundation, as a Joint Venture between Genetrix and Advancell.
  • 2007
    - Fenix Biotech begins pre-clinical research to develop cellular products indicated for monogenic diseases.
 

 

Genetrix founds X-Pol Biotech - focusing on polymerases for DNA repair and improved amplification.
  • 2008
    - May: Foundation of X-Pol Biotech as a company focusing on polymerases for DNA repair and improved amplification.
    - June: X-Pol laboratories are established in the Madrid Science Park (PCM).
    - July: X-Pol Biotech starts its activities with 5 employes in the company.
  • 2009
    - June: Prof. Aidan Doherty, new member of X-Pol.
    - July: 7 employees in the company.
